Angela Chabai, founder of Happy Home orphanage, retired from hotel management in 2004. After she received her retirement benefit, she decided to build one classroom into a compound so that she could help poor children get a foundation of education, discipline, teach them how to pray and provide them food during the day for free. She was touched by seeing these orphan children roaming around on the street without food, and not going to school. In Manyara there are many orphans due to parents dying of HIV/AIDS and Malaria, and other children abandoned by their parents because of mental issues due to chronic alcohol. Angela started the school with 9 children aged 4- 8 years. The school is on the road to
Lake Manyara hotel. In 2006, she teamed with other donors to build a dormitory so the children had a place to sleep. She has grown the orphanage to more than 25 children and some of them have graduated to college. In 2024, New City Church teamed with Angela and helped to repair their borehole so that the orphanage has water available again.
